Our planet has been violated for so many years in so many different ways. Along with the damage we are doing to our planet, we are also endangering our health. No wonder that more and more people and more and more companies are fighting to decrease their environmental footprint and do their part in helping the Earth. There are companies whose products help the environment in some way, and you can join the fight by choosing those products over some else.

That being said, do you know which bathroom improvement greatly helps the environment and also helps you take care of your health? A bidet! Yes, believe it or not! This miniature fixture that is laughed at in some countries is actually unbelievably good for your health and the environment! Let’s see what its secret is then.

A short history of the bidet

A classic bidet is actually a small object in the shape of a bathtub, usually places next to the toilet, with a tap on one end. When the tap is filled with water, you can use it to wash yourself below the belt by straddling over it. It first appeared in France in the 17th century and served as a washing basin for people’s private parts and placed in the bedroom. The name “bidet” comes from French, meaning “pony”, as it needs to be straddled before use. They were used in high society but they soon became popular in Western Europe, Middle East, Asia and Latin America. Many people in Australia and South America still think of it as ridiculous or unnecessary but this article will prove them wrong!

How the bidet improves our health

First of all, having the bidet means you’ll never have to use the toilet paper again. That same toilet paper isn’t actually good for you – just think with what the trees used for making it are treated! And the chemical processes used for producing white and soft toilet paper are numerous and include additives, colored dyes and wax. Do you really want that toilet paper on your private parts?

Additives in some toilet papers can seriously disturb the PH balance of your private parts, leading to bacterial infections. A lot of toilet paper is perfumed and contain chemicals, resulting in possible allergies in people. Fibers in some toilet paper can be rougher, causing micro cuts, pain and possible infections. As it’s possible to regulate the water pressure and temperature, it is a much pleasurable experience for people suffering from various medical conditions, including hemorrhoids. If you have a look at any good bidet shop with wide selection of bidets, you’ll see just how much they are designed to provide you with comfort and improve your health. The great thing about them is that they come in different styles and colors, so it’s not like that you are getting one that looks just like the one from the 17th century France!

The environmental impact of the toilet paper production

Let’s start with a shocking fact: every day around the world, almost 270,000 trees are cut to be used or end up in a landfill. 10% of those trees are used for producing toilet paper. As there is the ever-increasing demand for toilet paper in developing countries, it’s clear how big of an impact it is that the toilet paper manufacturers have on the planet’s forests. Some paper industries use plantations to have a huge supply of specific trees to use. However, as this mono-culture doesn’t allow any other animal or plant to thrive, it’s necessary to use a great number of chemicals and pesticides. A part of the chemicals finds their way to the rivers and lakes. It’s the same water us and many other living beings use for drinking. Do you see where we are going with this?

Not to mention the fact that reducing the number of trees around the world also means less oxygen. And we need the oxygen, right? So, all of these awful things that we are doing to the Earth and all the garbage we are producing is for a bit of toilet paper? It’s time to look at the better alternative!

Final words

As you can see, it’s our responsibility to take care of our health and our planet any way we can. Getting a bidet will make a huge difference in your life – you will save a lot of money that you usually spend on toilet paper, you will know that your skin and sensitive parts are protected from infections and you will do your part in creating a world with clean air and clean rivers. So, join the big comeback of the bidet!
