When Your Home Security Turns Against You

Having a secure property is important in this modern society, and there are many ways to achieve that. Video surveillance systems and intruder alarms work well, and act as a deterrent to opportunist house breakers.

The embarrassing lock-out

It happens to most people at some point or other, perhaps it began with a stroll to the mailbox, then a gust of wind slams the front door closed, and the poor occupant is stranded outside. If they had decided to air the living room, the open window will provide access, and failing that, they may have to look for a locksmith. Action Lock are well established locksmiths in Perth, and can have the door open in no time.

A key safe solution

The best way to prevent calling out the locksmith is to have a key safe installed. A spare set of keys can be deposited, and in the event of a lock-out, the occupant can simply enter the combination and retrieve the keys. This could be useful if the people are away, and there is an emergency situation, which requires the fireman to enter the property to extinguish a fire. One can inform the local police of the combination, which they can pass on to the emergency crew while they are on their way. This could be the difference between a small fire and one that destroys the house. A locksmith in Perth, Sydney, or any other large Australian city would stock a range of key safes, and would be happy to install it.

Another advantage of a key safe, is that the occupants do not have to carry keys when they go out, as one master set of keys always remains in the key safe, and a spare set can be kept in a drawer somewhere inside the house.

Motion sensor alarms

These are notoriously unreliable, and tend to go off for no apparent reason. While it is a good idea to know if a person is snooping around on the property, the neighbour’s cat can also trigger the alarm. They are noisy, and always seem to go off in the middle of the night, which is sure to please the neighbours.

Safes have always been popular for storing valuables, yet they can become a source of trouble should the owner forget the combination. If they had neglected to write it down, then a locksmith would be required to open it. With years of experience opening safes, he or she would be able to open it, and also give the combination to the owner, who really ought to make a note of it and keep it somewhere safe – no pun intended 🙂

Home security is an essential requirement for the modern home, and while it is generally reliable, there are occasions when it lets a person down. Without the keys, forcible entry will cause damage, and should be avoided. Calling the locksmith is a far better solution, and if they are local, the door will be opened in no time.
