Vintage decor has become one of the most fashionable crazes and homeowners everywhere are eager to join the trend. Vintage style homes can be decorated on a budget, whether you use coupons for Kohls to accomplish the task or rely on other methods of doing so. We’ll give you a few tips on how to make sure your home looks like you desire on a budget, so read on to learn more!

Look For Furniture With Potential

If a piece of furniture does not look exactly like you want it to, this doesn’t mean that you need to dismiss it straight away. Don’t worry so much about finding the right colors and patterns, ask yourself if the piece can be reupholstered instead, so that it is more to your liking. However, be careful about buying pieces just to pick them. Make sure that you can strip it down and paint it first, before bringing it home.

Don’t Sleep On Thrift Store Items

When you see an item that is a must have, especially while thrift shopping, act fast. In all likelihood, the thing that you see today will not be there if you come back tomorrow, so as long as you are not spending money you don’t have, make your purchases quickly. Failing to shop on time will only cost you more in the long run, when you end up purchasing lower end items just to fill the void.

Purchase Multi-Purpose Items

Decorating a vintage style home on a budget means finding pieces that can potentially serve more than one purpose. Should you see something that looks as if it could fit great in your home, but you are not quite sure where it will go, make the purchase now and take care of the rest later. Focus on items that can be used in multiple rooms, and different places.

Matching Is For The Birds

Making sure that everything in your house matches up perfectly is no longer necessary. Vintage style homes use a number of different motifs and decor patterns. Even items that would not seem to go together can live side by side, in perfect harmony. If you want to have fun with vintage home decor, it will be almost impossible to find items that all go together and maintain the same color schemes, so don’t worry and just let your imagination run wild!

It’s All In The Details

To make your vintage style home stands out, the small details are crucial. Perhaps you will be able to find some rustic kitchen utensils or get a mid-century table that looks great in the middle of your living room. Or maybe you have some family heirlooms that can add character to common areas of the home. One person’s idea of trash could easily become your treasure!

These are awesome tips, Mary Ann! My mom’s home is vintage-inspired, and we love looking at local thrift shops for cheap ideas. My favorite finds include ceramics, copper, and wood. They add an antique feel to any home. I also recommend fresh flowers as they make any room look cozier in an instant. 🙂
