So far it’s really been a cool summer in Victoria, but guess what the weather has in store for us on the New Year’s Eve … yikes, it’s going to be blazing hot. In fact, I think New Year’s Eve will be the hottest day we’ve had this summer. And when it’s hot the threat of fire from fireworks gets higher. Such fire can quickly get out of control to the extent that it may threaten people’s lives and cause damage to property.
Fireworks may seem as innocent fun celebration thing, but the truth is that in Victoria the use of fireworks requires a permit, without which it is considered illegal, and may result in criminal charges. When used irresponsibly, fireworks can start a fire, and with the recent rains there is a lot of fuel around, because the rains resulted in growth of grasslands, which dry up quickly in hot weather. Anyone who attempts to use fireworks without a permit should know that they risk being held personally responsible for any damage or injuries.
The person using the fireworks is in greater danger than others who just watch. There are many types of fireworks and they can cause the firer various types of injuries, such as severe burns, blindness, and I don’t want to scare you – but death is also on that list.
So what do you do, if you managed to get some illegal fireworks? Call a licensed pyrotechnician and let them take care of the fireworks for you. Storing fireworks in your house or transporting them in your car can be very dangerous because of their explosive nature. Even if you don’t use the fireworks, having them in your possession is still an offense.
And finally, for those of you who are still not convinced those fireworks in your back yard are a bad idea, I’ve got a small request. Would you please do me a favor and read how to minimize the damage and use your illegal fireworks in the safest possible way here on the Pyro Group website.
