Interesting facts: what are the wealthiest suburbs?

Portsea Bay Beach Take a guess just off the top of your head – where do the highest income earners live? Don’t look at me, I wouldn’t have a clue. I mean, in Victoria I would probably say Brighton, or Hawthorn, or South Yarra, but without much confidence. And besides, what IS the definition of high income?

The table below clarifies it all. According to the Australian Taxation Office statistics, the highest median annual income is $198,987 (almost $200,000!) and the suburb it belongs to is Portsea in Victoria. This is the official home to highest paid workers. Call me naive, but I am quite surprised!

Another Victorian suburb that made it on the 10 wealthiest income earners list is Toorak – no surprise there, at least for me, the name of this suburb precedes it. The mean income in Toorak is $147,578 – nice, isn’t it? I could certainly get used to something like that.

And here is the rest of the wealthiest suburbs in Australia. Is yours one of them?

Where I live, in Vermont, you never know where the wealthy are going to live. You can be out in the so-called middle of nowhere, and find a very nice place. I think a lot of artistic types like the beauty and solitude.
